North Country Tapestry: Written for the Love of Our Land and All that Lives Therein. This book is an anthology of many of her writings about rural life and the garden at Dalemain.
This book which brings together some of the articles written by Sylvia Mary McCosh for the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald, is the result of a lifetime knowledge of energetic gardening. Here one reads of her love of flowers and trees, in some cases named after the people from whom she received the original plant - “Dr Bullocks rose” - and so forth. The plants seemed to respond to that love and care, growing bigger and better than other peoples! She was a gardener who talked to her plants as individuals; no miserable seedling struggling for life in her borders was ever thrown aside, but carefully lifted and replanted in a hot or cold frame to be nurtured on like a sick child. Her fingers were truly green.
Her poems are moving with great feeling for nature, and her family. She managed to finish this book before her long battle against cancer was ultimately lost in August 1991.
